Here we are in the first days of February in Norway and there is a thin sheet of icy snow on the ground – the remains of a cold spell we had that took us to below -10 for a couple of weeks. We are lucky enough to live with a strip of woodland on the slope at the back of our house and we are constantly entertained by visits from the wildlife who share it with us. Because we are high above the main road and river below, the deer come up to browse for food as the snow melts a little faster up here. Look who has paid us a visit the last few days – they look surprisingly healthy, and are getting used to me pushing open the kitchen window to film them.

These deer undergo all kinds of metabolic changes to survive the winter so best not to feed them on a regular basis- even though it’s tempting! Having said that we have to confess to throwing out a couple of carrots to get these photos 🙂
